Step and Repeat Backdrop Size Guide: What Size Do You Actually Need?
8x8 or 10x20? Here's how to pick a media wall size based on how many people stand in front of it — plus logo sizing that survives a crowd.

Start with how many people are in the shot
Backdrop size is a photography decision before it's a printing decision. Count the widest group that will pose at once, add three feet of visible backdrop on each side, and you have your minimum width.
- 8ft x 8ft — singles and pairs, the default for most press lines
- 8ft x 10ft — small groups of three to four
- 8ft x 16ft — sponsor rows, teams and step-off photos
- 10ft x 20ft — full media walls and multi-sponsor activations
Size and stagger the logos
Logos between four and eight inches tall read cleanly in both DSLR and phone photos. Stagger every other row so a person's shoulders never block an entire mark, and keep at least half a logo width of breathing room between repeats.
If you have multiple sponsors, alternate them evenly rather than clustering — clustering guarantees one sponsor is hidden in every photo.
Fabric beats vinyl under flash
Photographers shoot with hard light. Matte tension fabric scatters it; glossy vinyl reflects it straight back as a hotspot that eats a logo. If the wall will be photographed, choose fabric.
Leave floor and ceiling margin
Frames stand about eight feet tall. Check the venue's ceiling height and any chandelier or truss that may cut into that, and keep the bottom 12 inches of artwork simple — it's usually cropped out of the shot anyway.
